Bringing Order to the Legal World.
Paralegals increase the efficiency of a legal firm by performing various challenging legal tasks under the supervision of a licensed attorney. Paralegals often conduct witness interviews, draft legal documents, perform legal research, and communicate directly with clients. Paralegals are also trained to assist lawyers as they prepare for hearings, conduct trials, and negotiate settlements.
To excel in the legal field, paralegals need to have an eye for detail, be skilled organizers, and be able to work well on a team. During the 16-month paralegal program at International Business College, you can learn important skills and will study many legal content areas including:
- Criminal, Family and Tort Law
- Civil Litigation Procedures
- Real Estate Transactions
- Legal Ethics
The 16-month Associate of Applied Science degree program is designed so you spend the majority of your time learning skills directly related to your career in the legal world. You will also spend 8 weeks in an externship where you can practice what you've learned and experience working in a legal setting.
